From Makeup Artist to TV Beauty Expert: My Journey and Skincare Secrets for You 🌟

Over 30 years ago, I started out as a makeup artist, working behind the scenes at a local CBS TV station. My dream was simple: I wanted to help people feel beautiful and confident. There was something magical about watching someone’s face light up after seeing themselves transformed, helping feel more confident before they stepped out in front of the camera, and I loved being a part of that. Back then, I didn’t realize how far that first step would take me or how my journey would evolve.

As I worked with more clients and celebrities from TV, to Movies, to magazine publications such as Vogue, I was increasingly fascinated by the beauty and fashion industry. As an esthetician I became more and more fascinated by the modern technology developing in skincare as I feel good skin is more essential than makeup.

I also became passionate about sharing tips for self-care and confidence. As I say, I can make you look amazing on the outside, but if you don't feel good about who you are...it doesn't matter.

But life had bigger plans for me than just being behind the scenes! Before I knew it, I found myself on the other side of the camera.

My very first producer—someone I deeply respected—believed I had something important to share and encouraged me to step into the spotlight. That leap was both exhilarating and terrifying.

I began sharing beauty and wellness tips on camera, reaching audiences far and wide. Teaching people how to care for their skin, feel more confident, and embrace their natural beauty became my mission.

And over the years, as I traveled the country, spoke with countless people, and heard their stories, I realized that beauty goes far beyond makeup and skincare. It’s about the connection between mind, body, and spirit. When we care for ourselves from the inside out, we radiate a different kind of glow—one that no product alone can create.

Now, all these years later, I’m grateful to be able to share not only beauty tips but also the importance of self-love and wellness through my bestselling book and my podcast.

This past week, I was asked to return to the TV station where I started my career, to share a few skincare tips to refresh your skin and reconnect with self-care. Life has a way of coming around full circle.

Here are some tips I shared:

1️⃣ Gentle Cleansing is Key

Many of us are unknowingly harsh on our skin, using soaps that strip away natural oils. Try a cleanser with soothing ingredients like aloe or chamomile to nourish your skin and keep its natural balance intact.

2️⃣ Exfoliate, But with Care

Exfoliation is essential for a radiant complexion, but it’s important to be gentle. Aim for twice a week, and choose an exfoliant without sharp edges. This clears away dead skin cells and allows your products to penetrate better, enhancing their effectiveness.

3️⃣ The Power of Serums

Think of serums as a daily vitamin boost for your skin. I recommend Vitamin C for brightening and sun damage repair and hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. Using a serum morning and night can help your skin look brighter and feel more hydrated.

4️⃣ Don’t Skip Moisturizer

Even in warmer climates, moisturizer is a must! During the night, use a richer cream that allows your skin to repair and hydrate deeply as you sleep. And remember to care for the delicate under-eye area with a specialized eye cream.

5️⃣ Sunscreen: Your Best Anti-Aging Secret

Nothing protects against wrinkles and sun damage like daily SPF. Apply it every day, even in winter, on your face, neck, and any exposed skin. It’s a simple step that makes all the difference in maintaining a healthy, youthful glow.

Looking back, I’m grateful for every step that’s brought me here—from makeup artist to TV personality and beauty and wellness advocate. And I’m so grateful to be able to share these tips with you today. As we care for our skin, we’re not just investing in our appearance but in our confidence and well-being. Skincare isn’t about chasing perfection; it’s about self-respect, self-love, and honoring the person you are.
